  • Delhi Metro’s Blue Line Faces Delays Amid Cable Theft

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) informed passengers about the issue, advising them to plan their journeys accordingly.

Delhi Metro services on the Blue Line experienced disruptions on Thursday as a result of cable theft that occurred between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations, leading to considerable delays for passengers.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) informed passengers about the issue through posts on X, advising them to plan their journeys accordingly.

“There is a delay in services on the Blue Line due to a cable theft between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar. The inconvenience is regretted,” the DMRC stated.

In another update post, DMRC clarified that the cable theft issue could only be resolved after the operational hours of the metro.

“The cable theft issue on the Blue Line between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar will be rectified only after the end of operational hours in the night,” it said in the post.

“Since the trains will operate on restricted speed on the affected section during the day, there would be some delay in services,” it said.

The corporation urged commuters to plan their travel with the delays in mind, noting, “The journey shall take some additional time.”

The Blue Line, a crucial and heavily trafficked corridor of Delhi Metro, connects Dwarka in the west of the national capital to Noida and Vaishali in the east (Uttar Pradesh).

The line services key areas such as Rajiv Chowk, Yamuna Bank, Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Noida Sector 16, and Noida Sector 18, where many offices are located.

With the delay coinciding with morning office hours, passengers faced inconvenience, particularly those commuting to work in areas served by the Blue Line.

Efforts to restore normal operations are expected to begin after metro services conclude for the day, with repairs scheduled during non-operational hours.

  • Ahmedabad Metro Sets New Record, Over 4 Lakh Fans Take Train On Coldplay Concert Days

Over the two days of Coldplay’s concert in Ahmedabad, a total of 4,05,264 passengers used the city’s metro service.

Coldplay performed in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The concerts resulted in a record-breaking surge in passenger numbers for the Ahmedabad Metro. “GMRC achieved its highest passenger journey count of 2,13,735 in Ahmedabad on January 25, 2025. A further 1,91,529 passenger journeys were recorded on January 26,” the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) stated on Monday. Over the two days, a total of 4,05,264 passengers used the city’s train services. Compared to the Saturdays and Sundays in the preceding two weeks, approximately 1 lakh more people rode the Metro during Coldplay’s concerts. This translates to roughly 50,000 additional passengers each day, resulting in 1 lakh extra trips (including both onward and return journeys) per day.

To accommodate the surge, GMRC increased train frequency to every 8 minutes along the Motera to APMC and Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam routes. They also extended metro services until 12:30 AM on both days. These numbers surpassed previous passenger records set during major cricket events. Before this, the highest single-day ridership for the Ahmedabad Metro was on May 22, 2024, when Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets in the IPL 2024 Eliminator match. That day, the Metro carried 1,65,504 passengers.

Additionally, the concert crowd exceeded the Metro ridership recorded during the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final. On November 19, 2023, a total of 1,37,801 passengers used the Metro for the final match. The Coldplay concerts not only broke passenger journey records but also significantly boosted GMRC’s revenue. GMRC earned Rs 34 lakh on January 25 and Rs 32 lakh on January 26, far exceeding their typical daily earnings of Rs 15 lakh.

According to BookMyShow, the five Coldplay concerts in India attracted a total of 3.5 lakh spectators across Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Metro pillars are the beauty of Delhi, and we should not paste posters and hoardings here, said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday inspected metro pillars in the city and said that nobody has the right to damage government property. “If we want a beautiful and clean Delhi, everyone’s support is required. No one should spoil government property. Metro pillars are the beauty of Delhi, and we should not paste posters and hoardings here,” she told news agency ANI.

The Delhi Chief Minister then directed the officials to remove posters and hoardings from the pillars.

She also stopped on her way to Vidhan Sabha due to several stray cows on a flyover. She got out of her car and asked the concerned authorities to have a proper place for such animals and ensure they do not come on roads and get hurt.

On Tuesday, she presented the budget as a “historic” step towards transforming Delhi into an investment and innovation-friendly city. With a total allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore in various sectors like education and urban development, it is a significant rise of 31.58% from the previous year.

The budget for Housing and Urban Development has also been increased by 9%. This will focus on providing affordable housing, improving sanitation, and enhancing urban infrastructure.

  • “That’s Not Breakfast”: Delhi Police To Man ‘Drinking’ Inside Metro

The Delhi Police posted the video on X and explained what action they have taken for ‘drinking’ in public, that too inside the metro

A man was seen on camera chilling with a glass of ‘liquor’ and a boiled egg inside a moving Delhi Metro train.

The police took note of it after the video went viral and a passenger complained to them.

In the video taken by a passenger, the man was seen taking three swigs of ‘liquor’, looking from side to side to check if he would be caught. He took a bite of the boiled egg between the swigs.

The Delhi Police posted the video on X and explained what action they have taken for ‘drinking’ in public, that too inside the metro.

“Eggs and alcohol in the metro? That’s not breakfast – that’s a breach. Break the rules, face the consequences. Rules aren’t suggestions – they are the law,” the police said in the post.

The accused is a resident of north Delhi’s Burari.

“The accused person admitted his offence and a legal action was initiated against him u/s 59 of DMRC Act,” the police said.

However, the man claimed he was drinking the apple juice Appy Fizz, and making a video of it.

“… In the video, I was seen eating an egg and drinking ‘alcohol’. It was not daaru (alcohol) but Appy Fizz,” the man said.

“I did the wrong thing. I request everyone not to do any such thing. Today I have to face the law because of what I did. I seek forgiveness,” he said in the video posted by the police.

While it may have been Appy Fizz and he may have made the video for views on social media, the video made it look like he was drinking in public and encouraging it.

Delhi Metro has seen social media influencers do all sorts of antics for views. Commuters say they are a nuisance during rush hours.

The Services of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli became operational earlier this month, on May 10. The flooding at the newly inaugurated station has raised questions about the infrastructure.

Taking a dig at the situation, a user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “We are idiots. They were serious when they named it Aqua Line.”

In another incident, a part of Kemps Corner Road in South Mumbai collapsed, resulting in restricted traffic movement. Kemps Corner is a posh neighborhood in South Mumbai. It’s located at the intersection of Breach Candy, Warden Road, Pedder Road, and Nepean Sea Road.
